It used to be that Black Friday was an annual commerce-driven holiday where many of us would head out in the wee hours of the morning after Thanksgiving to fight for deals at big chain stores in person. Luckily, we’re more civilized these days. These things happen online and, mercifully, they’re not limited to just one day. Case in point, Amazon’s Black Friday sale is going on right now. For horror fans, that means an excuse to bust open those wallets and add some gems to the ol’ physical media shelf, as tons of Blu-rays and 4K Ultra HD releases are heavily discounted.

That being the case, we’ve looked through the many, many hundreds of titles available as part of Amazon’s sale this year. What follows is a list of ten of the very best deals we found for you, dear reader, to take advantage of. From the latest entry in the MonsterVerse to crazy deals on box sets, we’ve got something for everyone. Let’s dive in.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
Director Adam Wingard truly went for bigger = better with this year’s Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. It became the biggest entry in Legendary’s MonsterVerse to date, with Grant Sputore set to direct a currently untitled sequel. While we wait for that film, Amazon has Godzilla x Kong for a crazy deal on either 4K, Blu-ray or DVD. Pick your poison. My vote is for the 4K, which goes for just $12.99 but whatever your preference, this is the cheapest the movie has been since it hit shelves.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
For late ‘90s slasher fans, I Know What You Did Last Summer holds a special place. While the sequel is not quite as beloved, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is better than its reputation suggests, and it was recently given a 4K upgrade. As part of Amazon’s Black Friday sale this year, the 4K edition of the slasher sequel is a whopping 63% off, going for just $14.49. That’s one heck of a nice way to help tide us over until the reboot of the franchise arrives next year.

Made for a budget of next to nothing and with a simple premise, it was one of the more impactful thrillers that year. The term edge-of-your-seat gets thrown around a lot, but this movie truly delivers on that front. With a fully committed performance by Russell Crowe, this one is a damn good time. There’s a reason The Pope’s Exorcist 2 is happening, after all. But one of his earliest masterpieces was Videodrome, which is why The Criterion Collection gave it a very impressive Blu-ray release. That very Blu-ray release is part of Amazon’s sale, going for 50% off. That makes it just $19.98. For those who don’t own any Criterion releases, they are truly fantastic and worth every penny, even at full price. At half price? It’s a steal.

The Shining
Even if Stephen King isn’t particularly a fan of Stanley Kubrick’s interpretation of his work, The Shining is a stone-cold horror classic. It’s also insanely cheap right now as the 4K Ultra HD version is 74% off, making it a mere $10.99 during Amazon’s sale. From personal experience, I can say this is one of the best-looking 4Ks I have ever seen. It’s on my shelf and no matter what other version you own, this is worth the upgrade, in my personal opinion. If you don’t own it all, this is the time.

John Carpenter is known as the Horror Master for a reason. We’re talking about the man who gave us classics such as Halloween, The Fog and They Live, among many others. But many would argue that his finest work is his 1982 sci-fi/horror classic The Thing, something that’s tough to argue against. As part of Amazon’s sale, the 4K version of the film is 63% off, going for $10.99. That’s a stellar deal, particularly for anyone who might still be holding onto a DVD copy.

Saw is one of those horror franchises that just won’t die, and we say that with love. John Kramer, against all odds, continues to live to kill again despite dying early on in the series. Tobin Bell has already confirmed he’ll be returning for next year’s Saw XI as well. While we wait for that, Amazon currently has the Saw 10-Film Blu-ray collection on sale for 57% off, making it just $34.49. That’s less than $4 per movie, for you math nerds out there. I’m not patient enough to do the math-per-kill, it shames me to say. A good deal if ever there were such a thing.

One of the most successful original horror films of the past five years is M3GAN. It’s actually one of the most successful original Hollywood films of any kind since the pandemic began, amazingly enough. That’s why we’re getting a sequel and a spin-off titled SOULM8TE. Blumhouse is capitalizing on that success well. You can capitalize as well, as the M3GAN 4K, which includes the unrated edition, is on sale for 63% off, going for $10.99 right now. The unrated edition, in my humble opinion, is worth it.

Tremors 7-Movie Collection
In the realm of creature features, Tremors might not get the credit it deserves as one of the very best. In the realm of horror franchises, Tremors also feels a little slighted for being as good as it was across seven films in a very under-the-radar way. As for the forthcoming reboot of the franchise? Who knows, but we’ll try to be optimistic. For those who never enjoyed all that these direct-to-video gems have to offer, now is the time. The Tremors 7-Movie Collection on Blu-ray is part of the Black Friday sale. The discount is less extreme as it’s 17% off, but it’s only $22.49. Also, the Blu-ray set used to be hard to come by as this was often only readily available on DVD.
